On the day, boys, who received a gift (usually a chocolate) by girls on Valentine's Day, are expected to return the favour.
So here is my younger brother, an university student with no regular income, has been experimenting making some soft caramel candies the last couple of nights.
He is hoping to give them to the girl members of his canoeing club which he belongs to.
Last night he accidentally created 'fudgy' caramel candies instead of 'creamy' caramel candies.
(It was supposed to have creamy texture according to the recipe he used.)
It even got a hint of maple syrup because he decided to add something random from the fridge.
They were actually so good!!!
I had absolutely no complains to be asked to try them.
Although fudge is not very known, thus not a popular kind of candies in Japan, I am sure his teammates will like what he made. :)

明日のホワイトデーに向けて、お金のない大学生の弟はここ数日間キャラメルを試作してました。
完成品を試食してみると、むむ・・・・この食感は・・・・どちらかとゆうとキャラメルとゆーよりも。。。
このちょっと懐かしい食感は・・・・・
ファッジだ!
材料を溶かすときの温度が低かったようで、出来上がったものが味はキャラメルなんだけど、ファッジとキャラメルの間のテクスチャーに偶然なっちゃったみたい。
しかも、ほのかにメープルシロップ風味。（適当に入れてみたらしい）
これはこれでとっても美味しい!

日本では知名度が低いお菓子ですが、カナダでは石鹸みたいな塊で色んな味がどーんとレンガブロックみたいに積まれて売られているのをファーマーズマーケットなどでよく見かけます。
チョコレートファッジとか、メープルファッジとか、バニラファッジとか・・・・！！
あー考えるだけで脳みそが糖分を欲してしまうううう。
以前コンビニで森永からでてる「FUDGE」ってのを買ってみました。
（美結晶キャラメルって書いてたよ）
ほろほろ感が強調されてて なかなかよかったです。
